Bridal gown shopping 101

We challenged a future bride to stop dreaming about a wedding and experience the fun versus stress of choosing a gown.

Like many women, Meredith was sure she knew what would suit her! But not so fast...

"I felt as if I were playing dress up in my mother’s closet. It was fun to test drive the possibilities and I found my opinion changing with each style."

Meredith Dameron, 22, was only five years old when she had a pretend wedding with her best friend, Jordan. And, even then, the focus was on the dress. She says, “I have great memories of being the flower girl when my aunt was married at our cottage, so that’s where I will want to be married. It would be like a destination wedding except close to home and convenient for friends and family. The tiger lilies grow wild – it’s so beautiful. I would have both parents escort me down the aisle because each has contributed different things to my life.

“When I arrived at Mona Richie salon in Toronto, I assumed my choice would be a ballgown. My opinion changed after I tried on a few dresses. My favourite was the lace mermaid dress, Next favourite, for my figure, was the A-line dress with the black sash. Some of the dresses overpowered me, so that would be a deal breaker. I did get great advice from the staff at the salon. As they said, ‘It’s best to arrive with an open mind’.”
