The seven-day countdown before you leave
Seven days before
Reconfirm your hotel reservations.
Reconfirm your rental car.
Photocopy your passport.
Give your full itinerary to family and friends.
Six days before
List the numbers and amounts of your traveller’s cheques in duplicate, and leave one copy at home.
List the numbers on your credit cards along with telephone numbers of where to phone if they are stolen or lost. Leave one copy at home.
Five days before
Prepare a survivor kit and include prescription medications and contraception, if appropriate.
Include over-the-counter medications such as adhesive bandages, pain reliever, sunburn ointment, sunblock and antibacterial ointment.
Buy toiletries in travel sizes.
Buy film or memory cards and extra batteries for the camera.
Pack an extra pair of contacts or eyeglasses, if you wear them.
Four days before
Pay any bills that will come due while you’re away, (especially car insurance; this one is critical).
Pay down your major credit card to leave plenty of room for charges while you’re away.
Change $50 to $100 into smaller bills in the currency of the country in which you will be travelling for tips, snacks and taxis on your arrival and throughout the holiday.
Three days before
Confirm arrangements with the relative or friend who will be checking your house.
Ask them to pick-up and store wedding gifts.
Give them a set of house keys today – don’t wait until the last minute!
Two days before
Ensure that every piece of luggage is labelled, including the destination address and phone number of the hotel.
Reconfirm your flight plans to be certain departure times are accurate.
Check the weather conditions at your destination. You may want to fine-tune some of your clothing choices.
Pack. Put some of your clothes in his bag and some of his in your bag, just in case one bag goes astray.
One day before
Nothing should be left to the day before your departure. It’s time to concentrate on the wedding, in the knowledge that every detail for the honeymoon is in place.
